Summary

Earthworks of ditches, banks and channels are visible on aerial photographs. A linear ditch of probable medieval to post medieval date is present. A curvilinear ditch, that may be of a similar date, is possibly a natural channel that had been incorporated in the drainage system.

Map

January 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Earthworks of ditches, banks and channels are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). These earthworks are centred on TG 4790 0964 in an area of former marshland. A linear drainage ditch flanked by banks extends intermittently for 146m on a northwest to southeast alignment. Further to the southeast, its alignment appears to be continued for another 230m by a broad bank, probably representing the levees of this channel. It is likely that this linear drainage ditch is of medieval to post medieval date. To the north of the bank is an irregular curvilinear ditch or channel. It is probable that this feature is a natural channel, that may have been incorporated into the drainage pattern during the medieval or post medieval period.
