Map

January 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Earthworks of linear and curvilinear ditches of probable medieval to post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs (S1 and S2). These earthworks are centred on TG 4600 0880 in an area of former marshland. A narrow linear ditch, flanked by earthwork banks, is present on a northwest to southeast alignment in the western part of this group. This ditch continues the line of an extant drainage ditch and is cut by the Norwich to Great Yarmouth railway line, which opened in 1883. Another linear drainage ditch on a southwest to northeast alignment is also cut by the railway line. To the north of the railway line is a group of curvilinear ditches that appear to lead into a northwest to southeast aligned curving ditch. This ditch may be a continuation of an extant drainage ditch that is present to the south of the railway line. The curvilinear ditches may have originated as natural channels and were later incorporated into the drainage pattern. It its likely that all of these drainage ditches are of medieval to post medieval date.
