Summary

A group of World War Two air raid shelters are visible on aerial photographs within back gardens on Lower Cliff Road and Bell’s Road, Gorleston. These shelters are visible as earthen covered mounds, and are probably Anderson shelters, and these would have been for the use of the families living in the properties.

A group of World War Two air raid shelters is visible on aerial photographs within back gardens on Lower Cliff Road and Bell’s Road, Gorleston (S1). These shelters are visible as earthen covered mounds, probably Anderson shelters, and these would have been for the use of the families living in the properties. The site is centred on TG 5269 0372, although this point does not correspond to an archaeological feature on the ground.

All three shelters are approximately 3m by 2m and are located within the gardens of numbers 91 and 92 Lower Cliff Road, these both have blast wall covered entrances. The third shelter is located in the garden of 163 Bell’s Road.
