Map

January 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A possible World War Two air raid shelter or military weapons pit is visible on aerial photographs within the rear garden of 40 and 41 Avondale, Gorleston (S1). This possible shelter is visible as an oblong sunken feature, measuring 3m by 2m, with a surrounding bank. It seems likely given the size that this could relate to air raid shelter, possibly with its roof missing. It is also possible that it formed some sort of military weapons pit associated with either home guard training or the defence of the town. The site is centred on TG 5260 0342.
S. Massey (NMP), 20 January 2006.
