Summary

A possible structure visible on Winterton Dunes on aerial photographs taken in 1944 and 1945 was probably a military defensive structure, perhaps related to other defences in the area such as the pillbox 245m to its south (NHER 16792) or the radar station 175m to the west (NHER 35862). No trace of it has been recognised on later aerial photographs of the site.

Map

February 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A possible structure is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1944 and 1945 (S1)-(S2), centred at TG 5021 1877. Given its date and location, it was probably a military structure of some kind, perhaps part of the anti invasion defences sited along the stretch of coastline. It appears to have been roughly circular in plan. No trace of it is visible on later aerial photographs of the site, e.g. (S3). It should be noted that, due to a lack of adequate control points, rectification of photographs for this site was poor and that consequently its location should be regarded as approximate.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 1 February 2006.
