Full Description
February 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A probable World War Two pillbox is visible as an extant building on aerial photographs (S1)-(S5), centred at TG 5148 0710. It stood on the western embankment of the former Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway line (NHER 13581), at the point where it was crossed by Marsh Road. The earliest consulted aerial photographs on which the pillbox is visible were taken in 1944 (S1). At this time, it was covered with a superstructure, camouflaging it as a shed or railway building (see (S2)). The pillbox is also visible, free of its disguise, on later aerial photographs of the area, see (S3)-(S5), but although it appears to have been polygonal, the photographs are not clear enough to see its precise shape. It was demolished before March 1955 (S6).
S. Tremlett (NMP), 13 February 2006.
