NHER 26853 (Monument record) - Post medieval to modern earthwork bank

August 2002. Norfolk NMP.
Two stretches of bank visible on 1944 RAF aerial photographs (S1), running for 150m, with a 20m gap towards its seaward end. The bank is approximately 3.5m wide. It is possible that it is a post medieval feature, although it does seem to sit on top of a rough spoil bank which runs almost the whole length of the coast (26804), which is thought to be World War Two in date. Therefore it would seem likely that this bank is also modern and related to military defence. The bank lies nearly 40m to the south of an arrangement of pillboxes and other defence features, NHER 32385, 23515-6 & 26854-5). Also even by the time that the 1946 RAF aerial photographs are taken (S2), the bank is hardly visible and dilapidated.
