Map

April 2002. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmark of possible stretch of bank running alongside field boundary, visible on 1946 RAF aerial photographs (S1). It is 125m long and 5m across. It may just relate to field boundaries, however reference to the 1797 Faden map indicates that it corresponds to part of a system of sea banks, which run from TF 6667 3745 up to point approximately 1.2km to the northeast at the Heacham River. The bank NHER 26860 is also probably part of this scheme, also the banks included in NHER 26837 and NHER 26862 may be related. This phase of embanking the saltmarsh may have been as early as the late 17th century and is likely to be of the same phase of the NHER 26617 and NHER 26806-7 to the south.
S. Massey (NMP), 26 April 2002.
