Map

April 2002. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmark of possible post medieval bank or road visible on Ordnance Survey vertical aerial photographs from 1967 (S1). Linear bank, 490m long and up to 5m wide. Flanked by two ditches on either side. The eastern ditch is more prominent, probably due to the material collected down the slope of the field. This feature is part of the post medieval system of field boundaries and is shown as such on the 1902-7 map (S2). It is possible that this linear is the line of an early 17th century trackway referred to by Lewton Brain (1967:13) (S3). The trackway, marked on a 1623 map, was called Chappelgate, and seems to have followed a similar course, passing the modern cemetery to the west.
S. Massey (NMP), 25 April 2002.
