Map

Former smithy and house. Internal works revealed very crude timber framed wall with inserted upper floor. Beneath floors, brick pits and an apsidal space revealed. There is said to be a reference to a forge being built in 1825 and indeed (S1) shows a building here. External appearance now of about 1900, (S2) shows a building of identical plan to present. Suggested sequence – timber framed building in about 1800, forge added 1825, whole recased in late 19th century. (S3) in file.
