Summary

This large house appears to be a mid 19th century carstone villa. However the building may have been an older single storey building that was raised in height in the 19th century.

Map

Large house set back east of narrow street. Externally appears a typical carstone villa of the mid 19th century, slab infill between quoins, three bays two storeys, central door. However there is a horizontal offset in the façade between floor levels and the door and ground floor windows give the appearance of being insertions into an older fabric. The owners stated that the ground floor partitions were of brick but the first floor were of lath and plaster This suggests that an older, single storey house was remodelled and raised in height in the 19th century but there is no visible evidence to date this first phase. Note however comments under NHER 12680 as to houses in 18th century along this track.
