Summary

An undated gold ring, a 19th century copper alloy dress ring and several pieces of worked stone possible from a medieval building were found in the garden of Thistle Dew, Hubbard's Grove. The stonework may have come from nearby Modney Priory, the church or a medieval moated site to the northeast.

From garden:
Gold finger ring, ?male, resembling curtain ring.
Bronze dress ring probably 19th century.
Moulded block of freestone, possibly door frame segment, perhaps from Modney Priory or church - late medieval style. Site visited and objects identified by E.M. James (KLM), 1 August 1984.
Downham police informed of gold. Correspondance at KLM.

1991. Found in back garden:
Two carved stones of oolitic limestone. One is building material, the other possibly part of an archway/window/arcading with recess for glass?

Note however the proximity of this spot to the moated sites to northeast. Could the stonework have come from a building here?
