Full Description
March 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Structures dating to World War Two are visible on aerial photographs (S1)-(S3), centred at TG 5300 0673. They were located within the garden of the Masonic Royal Assembly Rooms (NHER 43016) and were probably associated with the use of this building by the Navy (S4). They comprised two curved profile huts (perhaps Nissen huts) which were connected to the lodge by a covered corridor or passage. A smaller structure in the northeast corner of the garden may have been a surface air raid shelter. The latter was constructed before March 1944 (S1); the huts were still being erected during September 1944 (S5). There is no evidence on recent aerial photographs of the site that any trace of the World War Two structures still remains visible on the ground.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 9 March 2006.
