Full Description
March 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of two ring ditches, probably Bronze Age round barrows, are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). These cropmarks are centred on TF 7332 3562. The largest of the ring ditches is the most westerly of the two, which is located at TF 7331 3562. It is sub-circular in plan with a narrow ditch and an external diameter of up to 27m. A 4m wide gap is present in the ditch on its eastern side with the ditch to its south continuing outwards to form a possible entrance. The second ring ditch is located immediately to the east of the first. It also has a sub-circular plan with a 3m wide ditch and an external diameter of 25m. It is likely that both of these ring ditches are of Bronze Age date and that they relate to round barrows. However, it is possible that the western ring ditch is actually a sub-circular enclosure of similar date. These ring ditches are situated on a southwest facing slope at approximately 46m OD overlooking a small valley. Other ring ditch cropmarks are located 130m to the east (NHER 43329) and in the valley bottom 200m to the south (NHER 12157).
