Full Description
March 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of undated linear and curvilinear ditches are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These cropmarks are centred on TF 7354 3717. A total of six sections of linear and angled ditch cropmark are present. In the centre of the group at TF 7355 3718 are two sections of overlapping ditch that appear to form an incomplete rectilinear enclosure. This possible enclosure lies on a southwest to northeast axis and measures at least 30m by 17m in size. The ditches forming its southeast and northeast sides continue beyond the enclosure, suggesting that it may have formed part of a larger complex. Two sections of linear ditch cropmark on a northwest to southeast alignment are present to the northwest of the possible enclosure. To its southeast an L-shaped ditch may form part of another enclosure on a different alignment. However, this cropmark is too fragmentary for it to be definitely interpreted as an enclosure. At the southeastern end of the group of cropmarks is a section of linear ditch that crosses the ring ditch of a probable Bronze Age round barrow (NHER 43337). None of these ditch cropmarks have an alignment similar to the present field pattern or the possible Roman settlement to the southwest (NHER 13070) and their date is unknown.
