Full Description
March 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Linear ditches are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S3), centred at TG 4965 1789. They probably represent field boundaries of pre-19th century date, as they are ignored by the field pattern depicted on historic maps, such as the parish Tithe Map (S4). They share their orientation and may be contemporary with a possible trackway and field boundaries 210m and 410m to the northeast (NHER 43404 and 43401 respectively). Part of the postulated trackway may correspond with a field boundary depicted on Hemsby Enclosure Map (S5). As a consequence, a Roman or prehistoric date for these sites is unlikely, and a medieval to early post medieval date seems plausible.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 20 March 2006.
