Summary

The site of a probable Bronze Age round barrow is visible as the earthwork of a mound on visualised lidar data and as the cropmarks of a double concentric ring ditch on aerial photographs. It lies at the top of a north-facing slope at approximately 39m OD. Other possible barrow sites have been identified to the west and southwest forming a dispersed group (NHER 43394, 43395, 1622, 33599, 43392). As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2018), it is likely that the earthwork of the mound still survives.

Map

March 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A cropmark of a double ring ditch, probably a Bronze Age round barrow, is visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). This cropmark is located at TF 7050 3584. The outer ring ditch is not completely visible but appears to be sub-circular in plan. It has a narrow ditch with an external diameter of 43m. The inner ditch is complete and also has a sub-circular plan. It has a 4m wide ditch with an external diameter of 31m. It is likely that this ring ditch is of Bronze Age date and that it relates to a round barrow. It lies at the top of a north facing slope at approximately 39m OD. Other ring ditch cropmarks are present to the west and southwest forming a dispersed group (NHER 43394, 43395, 1622, 33599, 43392).

July 2025. Northwest Norfolk Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AI&M) Project (volunteer strand).
A small mound is visible as an earthwork on visualised lidar data (S3) at the same location as the cropmarks of a probable Bronze Age round barrow described above. As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently it is likely that the mound still survives as an earthwork.
