Full Description
March 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A cropmark of a ring ditch of possible Bronze Age date is visible on aerial photographs (S1). This cropmark is centred on TF 7125 3823. The ring ditch is sub-circular in plan with a 2.5m wide ditch and an external diameter of 26m. Internally, there is a sub-circular positive cropmark of a pit or hollow with a 12m diameter. The area between the ring ditch and the central pit appears as a negative cropmark, apparently indicating a circular bank. It is possible that this ring ditch is of Bronze Age date and that it represents a round barrow. The presence of the central pit or hollow is unusual, but can be paralleled in a ring ditch cropmark 2.85km to the south (NHER 1622). This ring ditch is located on a south facing slope at approximately 47m OD.
J. Albone (NMP), 17 March 2006.
July 2025. Northwest Norfolk Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AI&M) Project (volunteer strand).
A mound, measuring approximately 23m in diameter, is visible as an earthwork on visualised lidar data (S2) at the same location as the cropmarks of the probable Bronze Age round barrow described above. It is presumably the remains of the barrow mound. As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently it is likely that the earthwork still survives.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 15 July 2025.
