Summary

A structure of unknown date, which is visible on aerial photographs taken between 1944 and 1989, may be part of a wreck. Several other wrecks have been identified nearby, such as NHER 27637 approximately 140m to the east. Alternatively, it could be part of a channel marker or similar maritime feature. A timber post recorded at this location during field survey carried out in 2004 may be part of this site.

Map

March 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A structure, partially submerged and partially embedded in estuarine mud, is visible on aerial photographs (S1)-(S4), centred at TG 5074 0752. It may be part of a wreck, one of several apparently abandoned in this area of Breydon Water (see NHER 27637 located 140m to the east, for example). For the most part, its shape is reminiscent of the prow of a boat, although one side projects further to the southwest than would be expected. Alternatively, it might instead be part of a channel beacon, dolphin or similar maritime feature; beacons are marked along each side of the Yare channel on the Ordnance Survey 2nd edition 25 inch map (S5). A timber post recorded here during the field survey stage of the Norfolk Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey ((S6), context 210) could be part of the same structure.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 29 March 2006.
