Summary

A World War Two air raid shelter is visible as a structure, covered by earth and vegetation, on 1940s aerial photographs. Its small size and its location within an enclosed garden suggest that it was probably a private shelter, intended for the use of a single family or household. It may have been an Anderson shelter, or a similar proprietary design. Recent aerial photographs indicate that the site has now been levelled.

Map

April 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A World War Two air raid shelter is visible as an earth and vegetation covered structure on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 5266 0894. It lay in the front garden of 87 Arundel Road. This, together with its small size, suggests that it was a private shelter intended for the use of this particular household. The structure appears to have had a curved or parabolic profile. It may have been an Anderson shelter or a similar proprietary design. Recent aerial photographs of the site, e.g. (S2), demonstrate that the earthwork has now been levelled.
