Full Description
April 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A probable World War Two air raid shelter is visible as a mound of earth and vegetation, probably covering a structure, on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 5242 0899. Its location, it what appears to have been a yard, perhaps part of an light industrial site or similar, and its possibly slightly larger size that many private shelters mapped elsewhere in the town (e.g. NHER 43507 150m to the southeast) suggest that it may have been a small industrial shelter. It would have been provided for people working at the site, although if anyone lived there they could presumably use it too. The shelter, which is partially obscured by a tree on the consulted aerial photographs, appears to have had a curved profile with flat ends. The entrance was probably at its east end. Recent aerial photographs of the site, e.g. (S2), demonstrate that it has now been levelled.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 12 April 2006.
