Summary

Cropmarks of undated and post medieval linear ditches are visible on aerial photographs. The alignment of some of the ditches is similar to the modern field boundaries and also partly correspond to boundaries marked on the 1812 Earsham enclosure map. Other ditches are possibly also field boundaries but their date is unknown.

Map

April 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of undated and post medieval linear ditches are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These cropmarks are centred on TM 3190 8933. Six sections of linear ditch cropmarks are present. Three ditch cropmarks in the northeastern part of the group have an L-shaped plan. The alignment of these ditches is similar to the modern field boundaries and they partly correspond to boundaries marked on the 1812 Earsham enclosure map (S2). It is likely that they are field boundaries of post medieval date. The three sections of ditch cropmark in the western part of the group do not correspond to the modern field pattern. Similarly these ditches are not marked on the enclosure map or later maps. Although it is possible that these ditches relate to field boundaries, their date is unknown.
