Full Description
(S1) notes as Corn Mill with circular dot, and also has words St Nicholas’s Iron Foundry, but it is not clear if these refer to this site or to that on the west side of Bacton Road which is now a car park. Present buildings, as on (S1) consist of an east to west range; number 50 at west end is a tall rendered house with internal stack to the east gable and a pentise to the north. Number 48 to the east is a lower range, two storeys, rendered on the south; the north wall seen from a distance looks like 19th century brickwork and is part covered by the pentise of number 50. It has offcentre stack to west and an east gable stack. Single storey extension to east and then a shed with a flint and brick north wall, infilled in breezeblocks to the south. The east side of the court is formed of a barn of flint with brick quoins and details bearing diagonal skintlings, before about 1780. West wall has cart door narrowed down but east wall opposite has only a low arched door. The south gable is of brick with a central blocked window; the north gable was similar but has been replaced in tin. The east wall contains many erratics and has two later buttresses. The roof is of later date with one reused tiebeam and one resembling a pole. To the south is a later flint pentise, and projecting from this to form the south side of the court is a 19th century brick range. Nothing visible remains of the windmill.
