Full Description
April 2006. Systematic Fieldwalking and Metal-detecting Survey.
Field survey of area of proposed quarry extension.
This survey recovered a small assemblage of prehistoric worked flints comprising 3 retouched flakes, an end scraper, 20 flakes and 4 pieces of miscellaneous debitage; a medieval pottery sherd and a post-medieval ferrule. The flints are not particularly diagnostic but most likely of Late Neolithic to Bronze Age date.
See report (S1) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 20 June 2026.
August 2006. Strip, Map and Sample Excavation.
Excavation undertaken ahead of aggregate extraction.
Ten pits were recorded in the northern part of the site, one of which was found to contain a small number of prehistoric worked flints and another single fragments of post-medieval pottery and brick.
Unstratified finds included a small assemblage of Late Neolithic/Bronze Age worked flints, a Roman pottery sherd, medieval pottery, a possible Roman brick or tile fragment, a post-medieval coin and several other, post-medieval and undatable metal objects. The bulk of this material was recovered from a possible colluvial deposit in the western part of the site.
See report (S1) for further details. The results of this work are also summarised in (S2).
P. Watkins (HES), 20 June 2026.
An archive comprising material from both phases of work at this site has been deposited with Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2025.164).
