Map

October 2002. Norfolk NMP.
Group of linear cropmarks of unknown date, visible on Ordnance Survey aerial photographs from 1994 (S1). The main ditched feature runs from TG 0859 4229 and follows a slightly curvilinear course to TG 0863 4221. At this point it takes a right-angled turn to the east and continues to TG 0863 4221. A gap is visible, this may be caused by geological masking or it may be an entrance or causeway along the ditch. The ditch corners again and continues a short distance to the north to TG 0863 4222. Geological masking make the tracing of this feature further difficult. It may possibly continue, as a line is apparent but hard to definitely distinguish it from the surrounding geological cropmarks. The two corners may indicate that this is part of a rectilinear enclosure of some sort; the rest of it being obscured. An additional linear was mapped to the immediate southwest of the main ditched feature, running from TG 0860 4220 to TG 0859 4219, this is 17m long and up to 2m wide. Other linear and curvilinear cropmarks can be detected in the area surrounding these features, however, it was felt that these were more likely to be of geological origin and were not mapped.
S. Massey (NMP), 22 January 2003.
