Map

October 2002. Norfolk NMP.
Group of cropmarks of linear features, ditches and a possible rectilinear enclosure, visible on OS aerial photographs from 1994 (S1). The main linear feature runs from TG 0684 4274 to TG 0692 4277. It is visible in two sections, measuring in total 137m and up to 1.5m wide. It is possible that this feature is a field boundary of possible post-medieval date. Another two linears are visible to the north of this, one running from TG 0699 4281 to TG 0696 4277 and the other from TG 0691 4280 to TG 0692 4277. These may also be field boundaries of a relatively late date. To the south of these linears is an area of quite mixed geological cropmarks, within which are several rectilinear and curvilinear elements. One set of features do, however, stand out as possible being archaeological in origin. These are centred on TG 0690 4266. A ditch can be seen to form a possible rectilinear enclosure, measuring 19m by 21m. This runs from TG 0692 4265 to TG 0690 4267, then it does a right-angled turn to TG 0688 4266 then again to the south to TG 0689 4265. The eastern edge of this possible enclosed area abuts the ditch at TG 0691 4265 and continues to TG 0690 4265. The date of these features is not known, no finds have been found within the vicinity of the site. Also caution must be used in even assigning the site any definite archaeological origin due the surrounding geological marks, many of which form rectilinear patterns.
