Map

Possible World War Two trenches and possible defensive position located on road verge and visible on RAF aerial photographs from 1946 (S1) and 1950 (S2). On the 1946 aerial photographs a roughly square structure can possibly be identified at TG 0825 4376. The structure appears to be camouflaged and is therefore not particularly clear from the air, however, it appears to be square and 4.5m across. This may be a pillbox or similar gun emplacement. On the 1950 RAF aerial photographs the site can be seen more clearly. On these aerial photographs earthwork slit trenches can be seen running up to this location. These run from TG 0827 4375 to TG 0825 4376 and are 0.5-1m wide and partially zigzagged in plan. The possible gun position or pillbox can now be seen as a roughly square hollow. The feature is quite steep-sided and well defined. It is possible that it was held a structure or gun position that has been removed in-between 1946 and 1950.
