Map

October 2002. Norfolk NMP.
Earthworks of sunken area surrounded by banks, possibly relating to a World War Two gun emplacement or similar defensive position, visible on 1946 RAF aerial photographs (S1) and OS aerial photographs from 1969 (S2). The site on the 1969 aerial photographs consists of a elongated curvilinear sunken area centred on TG 0771 4182, measuring 8m by 5m at its widest. This is surrounded to the south by two sections of bank, one centred on TG 0771 4182, measuring 8m by 4m and the other at TG 0772 4182, measuring 7.5m by 3m. The site is not clear on the 1946 aerial photographs, however, the ground surface of what is later seen as a sunken area appears to be scuffed by recent use or activity. This site is likely to be World War Two in date, although the function is unclear. It may be defensive position such a gun emplacement.
