Map

December 2003. Norfolk NMP.
A cluster of approximately forty World War Two small slit trenches and weapon pits visible on Kelling Heath on RAF aerial photographs from 1946 (S1) and 1950 (S2). The whole of the heath is covered with a mass of narrow trenches and pits, so it was decided to map specific groups or those features that were particularly clear and formed distinct patterns. None of the earthworks within this group were actually mapped, instead an extent of area for the feature was defined, centred on TG 0991 4197, and covering an area of just over 100m². The majority of these earthworks appear to be rectangular and approximately 3m by 1m. Two alignments of pits can be seen to run from TG 0996 4191 to TG 0985 4195 and from TG 0994 4203 to TG 0988 4197.
S. Massey (NMP), 8 December 2003.
