May 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A probable air raid shelter dating to World War Two is visible as a structure on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 5185 0694. It lay in the back garden of 202 Stafford Road, Southtown. This location, together with its small size, suggests that it was a private shelter, intended for the use of this particular household. It is visible as a small, roughly rectangular, surface-level or semi-sunken structure, which can be distinguished from a normal outbuilding by its curved shape in profile. It may have been an Anderson shelter without its usual covering of earth, or a similar proprietary design. A small projection at its west end may mark an entrance or similar feature. The structure is not visible on recent aerial photographs of the area, e.g. (S2), and has presumably been demolished or otherwise removed.
