Full Description
May 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A post medieval earthwork hollow is visible on aerial photographs in Fritton and St Olaves (S1). The site is centred on TM 4598 9908. The earthwork, which is over 80m in length and up to 5.5m wide and with an upcast bank to the west, is located next to the railway line and it possible that it is associated with the construction of the railway track. It is also possible that it was a land boundary at some point although no such feature is visible on the available historic maps. It is similar to dimensions and appearance to a series of earthwork ditches located to the east of the site (NHER 43693). Some of these ran along footpaths marked on the Ordnance Survey First edition maps and it is possible that this earthwork hollow marks a similar feature.
