Summary

A post-medieval drainage ditch is visible on aerial photographs within former fen to the south of Hickling Broad, Potter Heigham. The drainage channel is quite irregular and is likely to originally been part of a natural drainage creek that has been incorporated into the post-medieval drainage scheme. It is not visible on the Potter Heigham Enclosure or Tithe maps, suggesting that it is has gone out of use by the early nineteenth century.

A post-medieval drainage ditch is visible on aerial photographs within former fen to the south of Hickling Broad, Potter Heigham (S1). The site is centred on TG 4297 2004 and the drain forms an irregular U-shape, running from TG 4285 2015 to TG 4296 1988. The drainage channel is quite irregular and curvilinear and may have originally been a natural drainage creek that has been incorporated into the post-medieval drainage scheme. It is not visible on the Potter Heigham Enclosure or Tithe maps (S2-S3), suggesting that it is has gone out of use by the early nineteenth century.
