Summary

Earthworks of medieval to post medieval field boundary ditches are visible on aerial photographs. Some of these boundaries are marked on the 1839 Hedenham tithe map. It is likely that these medieval to early post medieval fields relate to the adjacent Manor Farm. The earthworks had been levelled and the field containing them was under arable cultivation by 1967.

Map

June 2006. Norfolk NMP
Earthworks of medieval to post medieval field boundary ditches are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These earthworks are centred on TM 3071 9221 adjacent to Manor Farm at Hedenham. A group of linear ditch earthworks are present defining rectilinear paddocks or small fields. Three incomplete fields are visible, measuring between 67m by 47m and 65m by 70m in plan. The ditches forming the northwest and southeast boundaries of these fields are marked on the 1839 Hedenham tithe map (S2), but the other boundaries are not. It is likely that these fields are of medieval to early post medieval date and relate to Manor Farm. The earthworks had been levelled and the field containing them was under arable cultivation by 1967 (S3).
