Summary

Cropmarks of an incomplete enclosure of possible medieval to post medieval date and an undated pit are visible on aerial photographs. An L-shaped ditch cropmark may form the north and east sides of an enclosure. It is possible that the ditches are field boundaries or that they define a small enclosure or possible moat of medieval to post medieval date. A rectangular pit cropmark is located 95m to the northeast of the ditch cropmarks. The date of this feature is unknown.

Map

June 2006. Norfolk NMP
Cropmarks of an incomplete enclosure of possible medieval to post medieval date and an undated pit are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These cropmarks are centred on TM 3051 9152. An L-shaped ditch cropmark is present in the southwest corner of a modern field. The ditch is up to 5.5m wide and extends for 45m on west to east and north to south alignments. It is possible that these ditches form the north and east sides of an enclosure. Although the enclosure is incomplete its internal dimensions would have been at least 41m by 36m. The alignment of these ditches does not match that of the adjacent field boundaries and they are not marked on the 1839 Hedenham tithe map (S2). It is possible that the ditches are field boundaries or that they define a small enclosure or possible moat of medieval to post medieval date. A rectangular pit cropmark is located 95m to the northeast of the ditch cropmarks. The date of this feature is unknown.
