Full Description
June 2006. Norfolk NMP
Earthworks of a small rectangular enclosure of possible medieval to post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs (S1). This enclosure is located at TM 3221 9170. Earthworks of ditches defining the northwest, southwest and southeast sides of a possible rectangular enclosure are present. The enclosure lies on a roughly southwest to northeast axis and measures at least 37m by 22m internally with a rounded western corner. The alignment of this enclosure is similar to a field boundary to its southwest and the line of the Ditchingham and Earsham parish boundary. It does not correspond to the other adjacent field boundaries. It is likely that this enclosure relates to Town Farm immediately to its northeast, but it is not marked on the Ditchingham enclosure map of 1812 (S2). It is probably of medieval to early post medieval date. The field had been ploughed and the earthworks levelled by 1984 (S3).

The northern and western sections of the possible medieval to post medieval enclosure mapped by the previous NMP survey (see above) appear to survive as very low earthworks on visualised lidar data from a survey flown in 2022 (S4).
