Map

Earthworks of linear ditches, possibly property boundaries of medieval to post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These earthworks are centred on TM 3314 9178 and lie partly within parkland associated with Ditchingham House (NHER 44791). Three of the ditches form a T-shaped arrangement lying parallel and perpendicular to the line of the Stone Street Roman road (NHER 10636). It is likely that these are the boundaries of small enclosures that predate the establishment of the park at Ditchingham House. These boundaries are not marked on the 1812 Ditchingham enclosure map (S2) and are probably of medieval to early post medieval date. A short section of ditch earthwork in the western part of the group lies at a slight angle to the road. This ditch corresponds to a boundary shown on the enclosure map and is probably also of medieval to post medieval date. To the north of the road is a further short ditch earthwork. This also lies perpendicular to the road but does not correspond to a boundary marked on the enclosure map.
