Summary

Construction of fish breeding ponds along the western bank of the Wensum in 2006 recovered the skeleton of a large horse. It is thought to have dated to the medieval or post medieval periods.

April 2006. Found in excavating fish breeding ponds along west bank of Wensum.
Some of bones retrieved from a dump on west side of site against road (area of NHER 3003), others left in situ and later retrieved.
Skeleton of large horse, probably medieval, post medieval or recent.
Dated by N. Larkin (NMAS).
Initially wrongly reported as aurochs.
Location makes a recent date improbable.
