Full Description
July 2006. Norfolk NMP
Earthworks of field boundary ditches and a pond of probable medieval to post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S3). These earthworks are centred on TM 3321 9344. Three parallel roughly north to south aligned ditch earthworks are present. These define three fields that measure between 40m and 45m wide and up to 157m long. The northern part of two of the fields is subdivided by further ditches. One of these smaller enclosures contains a possible pond at TM 3317 9354. Although the alignment of the field boundary ditch earthworks is similar to that of the modern field pattern, these ditches are not marked on the 1812 Ditchingham enclosure map (S4) or later maps. It is likely that they are medieval to early post medieval in date. The westernmost ditch earthwork aligns with the east end of Tindall Hall moat (NHER 10640) and it is likely that these earthworks are of a similar date. Further earthworks of this period are located to the northeast (NHER 44823).
