Full Description
July 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of field boundaries of probable medieval to early post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S3). These cropmarks are located at TM 3445 9294. A group of linear and curvilinear ditch cropmarks are present on roughly north to south and west to east alignments. A linear ditch extends intermittently from TM 3437 9321 to TM 3445 9291. At its southern end it crosses a roughly west to east curvilinear ditch that is present from TM 3441 9292 to TM 3464 9296. At its eastern end this ditch curves slightly to avoid the ring ditch of a probable Bronze Age round barrow (NHER 44834) and it is likely that the boundary was aligned on this monument. This field boundary ditch runs parallel to the line of Rectory Road to the south. None of these field boundaries are marked on the 1840 Broome tithe map (S4) but they are likely to be of medieval to early post medieval date.
J. Albone (NMP), 10 July 2006.
