Summary

A possible area of earthworks may be visible at this location on aerial photographs, however this is not certain. These features may be an extension of a group of earthworks to the immediate north (NHER 32268), which are of unknown definite date and origin, but are likely to be post medieval industrial features (see NHER 32268 for full details).

Map

July 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A possible area of earthworks may be visible at this location on aerial photographs (S1), however this is not certain. The site is centred on TM 4575 9848. These features may be an extension of a group of earthworks to the immediate north (NHER 32268), which are of unknown definite date and origin, but are likely to be post medieval industrial features, see 32268 for full details.

A possible area of earthworks may be indicated from the uneven and ‘stippled’ appearance of the ground on some aerial photographs from 1986 (S1). To the north is an extensive area of shallow earthworks of unknown definite origin and date, although assumed to be medieval to post medieval in date (NHER 32268). These earthworks are only clearly visible on one oblique aerial photograph taken specifically of the site in the winter, when presumably the vegetation was lower. On many of the other photographs the grass has an uneven and stippled appearance. This may suggest that further shallow pits and associated earthworks exist in this section of the marsh. However no definite earthworks are visible on the reasonably low-level aerial photographs from 1953 (S2). Although should not be treated as conclusive proof of their non-existence, as the confirmed earthworks to the immediate north (NHER 32268), are also not clearly visible on these photographs.
