Examined by A. Carter (UEA).
Late 17th-century L-shaped building seemingly purpose-built as a farm. A date of c. 1680 is suggested by the form of the roof, by the tall narrow proportion of the windows (placed strangely high in the walls) and by the absence of vitrified-brick patterning other than in the heads of the windows. The plan of the building is also typically late 17th century rather than 18th century. The position of the dairy within the service wing is also indicative of a 17th-century date, as are the oeil-de bouef windows used in both gables of the domestic range. The house was modernised in the late 18th century, when many of the late 17th-century windows were blocked up and new ones cut. It is possible that the existing cellar and pantry arrangement date to this period. A second period of modernisation occurred from the late 19th century onwards, the most obvious features of this date being the windows and a number of the architraves.
See report (S2) for a comprehensive description of this building.
