Examined by A. Carter (UEA).
Two-storied single-celled building with 20th-century extensions to north. Rendered walls with 20th-century openings under red pantiled roof. The single ground floor room is entered through a door in the west gable wall. Most original detail in this room has been obscured or rebuilt, so the plan has been reconstructed from evidence on the first floor. The plank-and-ledge door to the stairs did however appear to be 17th century. Upstairs much of the original timber frame was still exposed. From this it is clear the building had a brick gable end. The roof, though boxed in, survives and is of reduced principal rafter type with wind braces to the upper (?only) purlin which is trapped by the collar. This style of roof could be as late at 1650. The style of wall-framing doesn't look later than this and could be earlier.
See report (S2) for further details.
