1985. Inspected by E Rose NLA [1]. Late 18th century brick building of two storeys with dentilled cornice. Addition dated 1864; also a gabled projection in style of a 16th century porch tower. Upper floor of addition has a room stated by owner at that time to be a ballroom, but very small for this purpose. Ground floor consists of cellar-like rooms interconnecting by round-headed brick arches, leading to an open cart shed to the east, now infilled, and with blank arches along the wall of the original building. Brick floor with drain at one point. Corridor added along north side of original building at time the extension was made. Several very good cast iron fireplaces in older section are probably later insertions. Owner suggested the building was 16th century because he had seen a reference to a school being held in the mill house at that time; but nothing visible of that date in the present building. E J Rose April 1985.
