June 2009. Building Survey.
Survey of barn prior to proposed conversion.
The barn is constructed from brick in a chequered style laid externally in Flemish bond with black headers between red stretches. The internal faces visible in gaps in plastering are English bond and are all red. The barn is constructed in the same style of brickwork and it is likely that the barn is contemporary with the house and the date of 1732. The Tithe map depicts a projection on the site of the cart shed as early as the 1840s. The annex is constructed from bricks bearing diagonal skintlings and so date to before the late 18th century. It is possible that the annex was built at the same time as the house and barn but it may be of a slightly later date. The original function of the structure is not known but the wide doorway could suggest it served as a gig house or stable.
See report (S3) for further details.
