Shirley House, No 23 London Street.
January 1951. Listed, Grade II.
Listing Description excerpt:
"House, now club. Built around 1770, refronted [in] late 20th century. Red brick; slate front roof, pantile rear roof. Exterior: three storeys in five-window range, the centre three window bays broken forward under a pediment. Central six-panelled door...Timber doorcase of engaged Doric columns...Modillion eaves cornice. Blind oculus in original pediment. Pitched roof rising to a central flat, formerly gabled, with internal gable end stacks. A brick front was added to that existing [in] late 20th century, but the central pediment section remains...Interior: altered: ground-floor south rooms opened into continuous space for bar area. Stick-baluster staircase with ramped and wreathed handrail. Six-panel doors and 18th-century fireplace."
