THIS BUILDING WAS PREVIOUSLY RECORDED UNHER NHER 5747 (CONTEXT 2).
House, now flats. Late 19th century. Flint with gault brick dressings. Slate roof. Two storeys and attic in three bays, the outer bays projecting. Central plank and muntin door under a rendered hood on labels. One 3-light window right and left, the lights round-headed. Hoods with label stops again. Two similar two-light first-floor windows above and, over door, a diaper panel. Kneelers developed into panelled projections. Gabled roofs. Paired chimney flues with spiral, chevron and diaper moulded brick patterns. Two-storey extension to southeast with an external stack and second doorway. Interior not inspected.
See (S1) for further details.
August and September 1987. SEE NHER 5747 FOR FURTHER DETAILS.
Groundworks for the construction of a new building to the rear of Gothic House were observed. This work was within the area of the original garden of the house. Made ground was revealed to a depth of about 1.5m and one pit containing 19th to 20th century rubbish was recorded to a depth of just over 2m. A small quantity of 16th century to modern pottery was recovered as well as 18th century and later bottle glass and numerous animal bones. One possible Iron Age sherd was recovered. The depth of made ground is likely the result of early gravel digging and later back-filling.
See (S2, Pp 27-8), (S3) and description in file for NHER 5747 as well as (S4) in secondary file for further details.
