Summary

Sweetbriar Cottage dates to around 1830 and was built for the Gunton Estate of rendered clunch with gault brick dressings and a thatch roof. This elaborate cottage orne has a brick central ridge chimneystack with four octagonal flues, and running the full length of the front is an open verandah with a thatched roof supported on wooden posts and having a gable in the centre.

House. Around 1830. For the Gunton estate. Rendered clunch with gault brick dressings and thatch roof with brick central ridge stack having four octagonal flues. Elaborate cottage orne' style. Single storey and attic; two-window range of two-light leaded casements with similar dormers over. Central door. Running the full length of the front is an open verandah with thatched roof supported on wooden posts and having a gable in the centre. Similar casements to both ends, that to left with part-glazed door and porch which very likely overlooked a subsidiary gateway on the estate. Outshut with catslide roof along full length to rear. Decorative bargeboards overall.
Interior: Back-to-back small open fireplaces with brick arches; plank doors; arched ceiling in former dairy.
