June 2021. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with construction of small extension at rear of Willow Cottage.
The westernmost of the footing trenches exposed the edge of a structure formed of very hard and gritty lime-rich mortar. This is believed to have been part of a brick vaulted cellar running perpendicular to Willow Cottage, the present owner reporting that a separate, similar structure was discovered during the renovation of the adjacent cottage to the south (known as Cockleshells).
See report (S2) and NHER 66630 for further details.
