Trafalgar House was the private residence of George Flower Wood (1827-1904) who was a corn and coal merchant. The name Trafalga House does not appear in the census until 1901 but a local directory of 1863 lists Wood's private residence under that name. The 1840 tithe map shows the house as an L-shaped building with one wing aligned along the western boundary. The house is shown on later and current maps as square in plan standing in the centre of a strip of land with spaces on both sides. There are still buildings shown along the western side of the property but these are detatched from the main house. If the earlier maps are accurate it is possible that the rebuilding of Trafalga House took place after the property was acquired by Wood c. 1860.
See (S2) for further details.

October 2010. Correspondence.
A former resident of a detached annexe to the present house described an inscription over the fireplace of Trafalga House reading: 'JGH - 1810'. This probably refers to James Gent Hacon, the last occupant of the previous building on the site who died in 1858. The previous house was known as 'Hacon's House' which appears on the Hare Estate map which was surveyed between 1811 and 1818.
