Full Description
Site of Nos 57 to 63 (odd) High Street.
June 1972. Listed, Grade II.
Original Listing Description:
"Probably 17th century, much altered. No 57 part with flint wall. Nos 59, 61, and part of 63, one storey and attic. Stucco, lined and painted. Pantile roof. Brick eaves cornice. Two leaded casement dormers. Wide shop window with central entrance. Interior: ground floor mainly an extensive showroom, includes ovolo moulded beam, fielded panelling, ogee moulded mantel and massive chimney breast.
Nos 57 to 63 (odd) form a group with Nos 43 to 47 [NHERs 47840 and 32077], Peardene [NHER 47408] and Nos 51 and 53 [NHERs 47409 and 47444] and No 2 Marsh Lane [NHER 12122, also now demolished]."
P. Aldridge (NLA), 27 September 2006.
1973. Building Survey.
Survey of 2 Marsh Lane (NHER 12122) and 63 High Street.
63 High Street already partly demolished at time of survey.
See report (S1) and NHER 12122 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 16 February 2021.
It appears that all of these buildings were demolished soon after they were first recorded in 1972. Ordnance Survey maps produced in the late 1970s show a vacant plot in the space previously occupied by 57-63 High Street and 2 Marsh Lane [1].
